Serena Culley

Serena Culley—Survivor
“After the Health and Wellness Ministry was formed, I was asked to captain the Race for the Cure team with the Women of Faith Ministry. Most of the women on the team are breast cancer survivors. We are the ‘wounded healers’ that are able to help others on their journey, because we have traveled the road before them.”

Terresa Mocabee—Survivor
“In early 2011, I found a lump with my own BSE (Breast Self Exam)—two months ahead of my next scheduled mammogram. A biopsy confirmed my worst nightmare. I can't encourage my friends and family enough to do your own exams in addition to getting your mammograms regularly!”

Doug Maurer

Doug Maurer—Co-Survivor
“After Kelly died, I told myself that I needed to do something to keep her memory and spirit alive but wasn’t sure exactly what to do. I wanted to make sure people understood that when breast cancer hits you or a loved one, it impacts everyone around you.”

Carmencita Brown Stewart—Survivor
“I have been fundraising for the Komen Race for the Cure for the past eight years. I set my goal by increasing my fundraising for each year that I am still alive. One of the most rewarding gifts is that once I was at a meet and greet and one of the Komen grantees actually came up to me to thank me for raising the funds that I did. She explained that they really do get the funds and it helps a lot of the clients that they come in contact with.”
